Course 1: Introduction to Snowkiting and Safe Riding

From experience it is clear that many choose to teach themselves how to snowkite and develop within the sport.  This course is aimed at those individuals that would like to do this but understand the value in learning the basics in Safety and Preparation to allow for a strong foundation for them to then build on.

Course Content

  • Safety
  • Understanding of the kite fly pattern and power zones
  • Launching and landing of the kite
  • To ski/board with kite
  • Selection of equipment
  • Practical
  • Preparation – how to maximize your experience and still be safe
  • Spot Check & risk assessment
  • Practice with the training kite
  • Rigging Snowkites
  • A review and deployment of the safety system
  • Launching and landing of Snowkites
  • Restarting the kite crashed
  • Get ready to get going on ski/snowboard

Duration 6 Hours Minimum (starting times are dependent on the daylight available. Typically course start at 10h00 and end 16h30)

Course 2: Snowkiting Made Easy

This course is designed as a more complete package to realistically teach you a solid foundation. It first covers the same content as the Introduction to Snowkiting and Safe Riding for the first day. It then moves on to the more practical side of the sport and what in reality most kiters face once then get the basics down.

  • Safety equipment for longer trips
  • Snowkiting in terrain with different gradients and sloops
  • Kite control in difficult situation
  • Going upwind
  • Taking opportunity to use different equipment
  • Practice as much as possible

Final afternoon rides with Instructors to the top of one of the peaks in the area

Duration 2 days

(Private groups can book a weekend option where we start Friday evening with some theory and safety briefing. This allow us to start early Saturday and finishing Sunday afternoon)

Course 3: Zero to Hero

This course is designed as a more complete package. It first covers the same content as 2 Day Snowkiting Made Easy. It then moves on to the more practical side of the sport and what in reality most kiters face once then get the basics down.

  • Safety equipment for longer trips
  • Snowkiting in terrain with different gradients and sloops
  • Kite control in difficult situation
  • Going upwind
  • Taking opportunity to use different equipment
  • Practice as much as possible
  • Making routes and following them to huts.
  • Ascending and descending steeper terrain

Duration 4 days

(Private groups can book a long weekend option where we start Wednesday evening with some theory and safety briefing. This allow us to start early Thursday and finishing Sunday afternoon)

What is included and what do I need to bring 

(This do not apply for the expeditions. A separate list will be made available for the trip)

  • Kites, harness, helmet

What to Bring

  • Goggles
  • Helmet if you have one (we will have school ones) 
  • Skis/snowboard (if you don’t have this it is possible to rent from FjällbuaGrövelfjäll or STF Grövelsjön)
  • Wind and waterproof clothing, including a warm jacket/sweater to be worn during breaks. This is the Swedish mountains on the Norwegian border in winter and temperatures can drop to -30 wind chill factor!
  • Warm gloves
  • Thermal Underwear
  • Sunscreen/cold cream
  • For skiers with rigid plastic shoes: If you want you can take an alternative, warm boot that is easier to move in before we begin with skis on

Wind Warranty
In working with nature we obviously have a situation that, although it does not happen often, but there might be a situation where all wind fail. We are flexible enough to offer you place on another course free! You are able to use this extinction for up to 12 months from the course date.

Terms & Conditions

Every participant must sign to the following at arrival

  • I understand and acknowledge that my participation in the activities associated with course involves a risk of damage to my own person, which cannot be eliminated despite the precautions taken
  • I also recognize that I myself could be liable for damage to third parties if I do not follow the safety prescriptions I get charged by the instructors
  • I take voluntarily the risk of injury associated with the activities
  • I’ve informed those responsible for the course and instructors. I have that may affect and involve risks relating to operations, including, for example. diabetes, epilepsy and heart disease
  • The undersigned hereby declares not to hold those responsible for the beginner class, instructors, Snow Kite Sweden or Grovelfjall liable as a result of damage to my person, or other types of damages arising in connection with activities undertaken in the course

Payment & Cancellation

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations made 14 days before will be fully refunded except for a service fee of 10%
  • Cancellations made 7 days before will be refunded 50% of the amount paid
  • Cancellations made at a later date will not be refunded
